used to retread a bolt hole that I completely destroyed out of rage. After the tears dried I went to amazon and found this little tool that made me rethink my life for a few days. Once it came I slowly inserted the tap to chase the cross threaded hole and some drill chill and 5 min later i entered a fresh bolt and it went in flawlessly. Never again will I make such a foolish mistake.Story.Was replacing a lower ball joint on a 2015 Lexus GS350 and I ordered some of the cheapest pieces of crap on a popular auction site. Once they arrived I tried to force them in the control arm and drive link and after about an hour of fighting and cursing I finally got them to sit some what flush. I started to thread one and it went in ok. Then the next bolt was sitting a little crooked so i figured if I torqued it a little it would thread in. Big Mistake. Turns out the holes the joint thread slide through where too short and where not sitting flush on the knuckle/spindle correctly. No matter how hard I fought it it sat on the knuckle and not flush with the hole. So i said "f" it and torque the hell out of it. Needless to say it didn't work. So here I am.

This tap was exactly what I needed. I wrench on all my cars for nearly all the maintenance. I upgraded to an air impact recently and proceeded to cross thread 3 subframe bolts nearly immediately. After I got done cursing at myself, I did a little searching and found the proper tap to rethread the holes. It was very easy work: add some lube, work it back and forth until it could go all the way in...you know the drill. I had the holes repaired in no time and the same tap will be useful on many parts of my subaru.

Tool looks like it’s 30% completed. I thought I would be buying a quality tool being that it is Irwin name brand but my cheap $20 metric tapping kit I bought off amazon is better quality.Ridiculous.Thankfully Joy at Amazon customer service was able to issue me a refund. I plan on using that refund to buy an actual, usable tap.

I don't know what was wrong with this tap but it wasn't even close to being the correct size. It was stamped on the shank to use a 31/64 drill (.484). My Starter chart said .492 so I went with that. Tap wouldn't even start in that hole. Finally bored it out to .502 and fought with it. In the end, my part fit very loosly but it worked but I believe this cutter was a reject.

Put a hitch on the wifes new vehicle, one of the bolts would not thread correctly. Got this tap to correct that issue. Some reviews said it was poorly made/machined but I find no evidence of that. I've always had nice luck with products made by Irwin and this is no exception.

Came faster than expected exactly as described. Was able to renew my caliper mounting bracket point. A little lube and a gentile and patient hand got the job done. Just a few threads then full pull out and clean the tap and hole and start again. nice stuff!

This came in incredibly handy as I had to address the work that a professional did by cross threading a caliper bolt...this saved me from having to replace expensive hubs.

Needed to tap new threads on my DRZ400S on the bottom of the case. It worked perfectly. The case is very soft. I’m not sure how well this stands up to other metals.
